British University Offers Master’s Degree in Facebook

A British university is offering a master’s degree in Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, but it will cost students more than $6,200.
For $6,275 Birmingham City University in the U.K. will teach students how to blog, set up podcasts and make the most of the social media websites for marketing.
“It’s not for freaks or IT geeks. The tools learned on this course will be accessible to many people,” convenor Jon Hickman told The Daily Mail.
“It will definitely appeal to students looking to go into professions including journalism and PR.”
But sudent Jamie Waterman, said it would be a waste of the university’s resources.
“It’s of no interest to me whatsoever. Virtually all of the content of this course is so basic it can be self-taught,” he said.

  1. Wow! If it wasn’t so much money, I wouldn’t think that we would have anybody majoring in anything else. Oh yeah, thanks for that link to managing the gray, I used it to listen to a podcast.

  2. Thats pretty interesting. I’d have to agree with the student that it’s a waste of money on things that you can virtually teach yourself rather easily.

  3. WOW! I cant believe what the world is coming to. A major in facebook? Shows us that the online is becoming more and more necessary to survive in todays business society.

  4. I think if I were on a hiring committee I’d find it pretty silly for a candidate to have such a degree. If they wanted to make the degree seem more attractive, then they should have gone with a degree in social networking…at least that sounds much more professional.
